Retraining as a Quantity Surveyor?

Hello, anyone here working as a QS? I would love to hear about your work-life balance and whether you retrained later in life. I’m in a completely different field atm but considering doing a Masters conversion and changing careers. Any advice would be appreciated

I work as a building surveyor. I used to work with a team of quantity surveyors. One of them blew his head off with a shotgun, one of them went mad and never came back, one of them left to become a vicar. The others seemed relatively sane. I don’t know if quantity surveying drove them mad, or whether quantity surveying attracts mad people. This was in a local authority architectural/design department.

My dh started as a QS and he’s always kept a pretty clear work life balance and enjoyed the job/ team he works for. He’s been with the company for 20+ years and worked his way up but I’ve always been jealous that his work stops at the end of the day compared to mine as a teacher!

Gosh, it does raise some questions doesn’t it! I have heard that it can be very stressful
