Working hours

I started a job which required working day and night shifts. To help a colleague out with medical issues I agreed to work the day shifts only, heavier workload on days than nights. After 2 1/years my colleague is now retiring. Could I now consider my working hours a permanent arrangement?

You should ask your boss not MN

@GingerGirl4549. No need to be so rude and ignorant. the op want to know her legal entitlement and asking the Employer is completely that wrong thing to do, you need to be fully armed before these conversation.

Similar to you My friend reckoned that as her day off had been Friday for two years legally they would not be able to change it. I'm not sure where she got that from I don't think she was right

Unfortunately I don't think this is the case. After two years you get certain protection but as you contract states both day and night I fear you are one a road to nowhere as it's not altering contract or working hours, it is in fact reverting to contract.

You need to look at CAB and ACAS as they may prove me wrong

You are entitled to request a change in hours called flexible working and "making statutory request"

Thanks for message and reaction to the other person's response. As you pointed out I was looking for someone who might have had previous experience of this kind of situation and advice before speaking to my employer.
