Remote working career

Good evening.

I am currently on maternity leave with no.3 and looking to start a new career. Older 2 are in school so hoping during the endless hours of breastfeeding I could do some online courses rather than sit and watch hours of netflix like I did with my last two.

Im not sure what I'm looking at exactly, I've looked into teaching online, virtual assistant, coding and a few other bits.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on courses or what routes to go down? I have about a year to play with.

I have experience in almost everything... I've never had a "career" as such just always done odd bits and bobs but now the kids are getting a bit older and this is the last baby I want to focus on myself.

Thanks

If you want to do something that is in great great demand, not exhausting, very well paid, and you can literally pick and choose your hours, training with the industry Association for electrolysis is an idea.

Thank you. I've looked into VA a few times but they all seem to come across as a scam/pyramid scheme vibes. I do have plenty of experience being a assistant so it would be perfect I just can't seem to find the right route.

Sorry, what is this exactly? I've googled and it seems to come up with various things. Thank you

I have a VA. She’s great.

Surely all you need to do is a bit of research and then set up a website, start advertising etc? I’d imagine it’s a pretty saturated market so maybe pick to specialise in one industry - creative digital, HR, IT etc…

What sort of bits and bobs do you do? Why do you specifically want WFH? Would hybrid working suit you?

I work remotely, but it was advertised as hybrid (2 days in the office) - I go into the office only very occasionally.

I'd focus more on what you want to do,the look for a remote position.

Sunisshine · 10/03/2025 08:31

Bookkeeping? You could potentially find a job that is remote working?

Hoppinggreen · 10/03/2025 08:34

A lot of VA work is outsourced overseas now. I know quite a few people who have a VA in The Philippines. Finding regular work may be a challenge
Also, a lot of training in that area is a kind of pyramid scheme, you are correct

What about Teaching English as a Foreign Language? I'm sure you could offer remote sessions very easily.

I switched to remote work last year after feeling stuck for a while, and it’s been a massive improvement—less commute stress and more time with the kids, though I do miss office chatter sometimes. I found a really good list of Remote Jobs In United Kingdom that helped me see there were more options out there than I thought, even for people without super techy backgrounds.
