Is it bad to ask for interview to be rescheduled

I’ve had some bad luck recently. This week I had to leave my living situation (tenancy) due to safety reasons so booked the first affordable Airbnb.

I’m in London so hotels and nice Airbnb’s are too expensive.
Now this Airbnb is luckily in a safe area but there’s no hot water to shower with, no kettle either. I thought I could just force myself to have a cold shower buts its icy cold and feels too painful.

I already find job interviews stressful enough due to anxiety / ASD, and now pathetically I’m in tears because I didn’t expect an Airbnb to not have hot water (on top of stress from living situation, and not expecting to even be in an Airbnb day before my interview).

I don’t have a gym membership either but I can maybe get a day pass tomorrow. Instead of prepping and arriving calmly tomorrow I’ve got to wake even earlier to find a gym then travel to a location I’ve never been to before. Usually would simply arrive early when never been to the place but if I have to go the gym first too it’s cutting it very short, not to mention I’m feeling really down this week.

My head is so overwhelmed (I have ASD so guilty of overstressing), and gutted I won’t be performing to the best of my ability. Is it a terrible idea to ask to reschedule the interview? The recruiter had mentioned they are looking to fill this post very soon and had called to double check my availability so I’m scared if I ask to reschedule they may decline and simply reject me instead.

Also I can’t ask a friend right now to shower at theirs either, as I don’t feel comfortable to explain my living situation to them atm.

Hey op, I’m with you on the cold shower, when you’re mental health is already shot it’s be tho g too much. I do agree with the others though, boil some pans and wash your hair / have a sink wash. Clean hair will make all the difference to how you feel!

I recruit a lot and wouldn’t think twice if you needed to reschedule, shit happens. It would only be if you couldn’t do another session in my time frame I’d have concerns. You can do this though! Get booking some water, a sink wash will sort you out 💪

Can you try just washing your hair in the sink? When our boiler died I washed my body with flannels and just stuck my head under the tap to wash my hair. It was cold but it was bearable just for hair and scalp.

Tbh OP, is all this stress over the shower a way to justify not going for the interview? With you already being stressed about the interview anyway, maybe you’re looking for an excuse not to go? I do this sometimes when faced with things I might be anxious about - I try to put it off/postpone it and justify a reason in my head.

Hi @Livelovebehappy I think you may be right! My annoying asd brain over stresses and catastrophises a lot.

I made the interview btw, left at 6am to go to a fancy gym offering day passes which had great showers. 😂
& now I feel so glad I didn’t give into negative thoughts, sure if I had cancelled I would have felt far worse now

& thank you all for your encouraging comments, now it’s over I’m reading back cringing at my crazy panic (but appreciate how kind you all were)

You were just processing! No need to cringe.
Well done

Well done OP. Hope the interview went well too.

Fingers crossed you hear good news about the interview soon @ASDnocareer

and in the meantime raise a complaint about the lack of hot water with the owner and Airbnb so you can get some of your money back on the rental.

Well done @ASDnocareer ! Hope you get good news 🤞
