I want to ask for a pay increase based on the points below, do I have a leg to stand on?
- My line manager announced plans to retire just before I was due to go on Mat leave
- The department director told me verbally that the promotion would be mine upon return from mat leave but wouldn’t put it in writing
- I went on Mat Leave in April 23
- I applied for and got the promotion in April 24
- 10th of April 24 I received offer letter for new job
- 19th April 24 received annual salary increase notification based on my previous salary (the standard inflation based salary increase offered to all company employees)
- 24th April 24 agreed to the new job and salary which didn’t have any inflation based salary increase applied.
In hindsight, should I have asked for the 5% salary increase to be applied to my new salary?
If I hadn’t been on Mat leave, I would have got this new job in November 23 and therefore would have received a salary increase in April.
I won’t ask for this to be backdated, but I wondered if I could ask for this to be considered within my pay increase this year, ie if this year’s increase is also 5%, could I ask for a 5% + 5% increase?
Gosh I hope this makes sense!
Thanks in advance
