Opinions on one-way interviews?

Just a rant really. I'm quite a confident person and have no issue being on camera. But I've just had to do a video interview where you record your answers to questions and I'm almost shaking with anxiety! I've been preparing for the whole weekend but it still went pretty poorly. Is this the way forward? It's so uncomfortable and feels so stilted.

Yeah, I don’t blame you. It’s a very poor candidate experience. So impersonal. A company I used to work for did it for their grad scheme. Their rationale was that they wanted to be more inclusive - not just focus on ‘top’ universities/grades but their issue was how to manage a huge number of applications without a massive time and personnel investment in interviews. Not great for new grads.
Completely inappropriate for experienced hires.

I think it is just laziness from the employer and poor practice.

It’s a bag of shite, see also ‘assessment centre’. You don’t get a proper interview, you don’t find out anything about the job until it starts.

It's a terrible experience, they put you in an unnatural situation where you aren't having a conversation. It shows laziness and lack of interest in candidate experience on the employers part, which also extends to their other practices. I dropped out of an interview process when they asked me to do this. They offered to give me a human interview when I told them the reason, but at that point I had a really poor impression of them so didn't bother.
