Hi, I have two small children one with special needs. I have an admin job at the moment won’t go into too much detail in case anyone knows me but it feels so relentless for the pay I’m on. I’m 4 days a week. I just feel so anxious in this job I end up feeling sick each morning. It’s a lot of work but also I’m asked things outside my comfort zone which stresses me out. I had a really good job within a uni for a long time this had admin but the funding came to an end. I just feel with a small family I want a job where I just do the work which is straight forward, a nice team and I don’t think about work once I log off. Have times changed? is it impossible to find a job that doesn’t stretch you to your limits on small pay?

I'm recently back in a new PT job and it's WFH. I'm in finance. I hear you it is relentless...and I definitely am not able to keep my work hat off unless it's the weekend. Sometimes I feel it would be easier to work in retail or something as you can leave work there!

I have 4 admin staff in my team, one of who is their team leader. I can confidently say, not one of them stresses about work or gives it any thought outside of office hours. I would hate to think any of them were feeling anxious about work.

Admin jobs are not generally well-paid, they should not be stressful.

Is it in a school by any chance? I think those are probably a bit more difficult.

@TheLionandAlbert Hi thank you that’s promising to know. :) I was wondering if it was me or if there could be something better for me out there. Is it okay to ask what sort of work they do?

If you are being asked to do things that are not within your job description, or which you have not been trained to do, you should raise this with your manager, but you can't reasonably expect to stay in your 'comfort zone' all the time, it's not how work works. Or life, for that matter.

They are technical support in a local authority.

Yes, it's possible. I work four days a week in admin and don't feel particularly stressed. My work is stimulating (never boring) but not stressful most of the time. Maybe you should look for another job if it's making you feel ill.
