Attractive opportunity but horrendous GD reviews

I've been approached by a recruiter about a job opportunity. It's a 4 day a week job with the same salary I'm currently on. I was very excited about the role until I checked the Glassdoor reviews.

The company had 2.0 star rating and the negative reviews were all recent and agreed on the toxic environment, coming senior management. The only good review seemed fake and written by the company's management.

I have a 18 month-old so less working days plus going only one day to the office are a massive draw for me (my commute to the city is 1
5hrs each way). However, it won't be worth it if they make my life hell.

Would you give them a chance and go to the interview? Could you work under those conditions if the pay and flexibility are there?

Reaching out to ex employees seems a bit much

I'd believe the reviews (as the reviews I've seen relating to places I've worked, are all spot on) and make my decision based on the reviews being factual

Don't do it. Wish my daughter had done this before staring in a toxic work place. It's been hell - they completely lied and screwed her over.

I left a very factual but true review on an old workplace. They had it removed, so my thoughts are if they are happy to leave those ones up which ones have they removed.? Ask the recruiter what they know of the culture, how often they are recruiting, gas there been a restructure etc. regarding contacting people in LI, it's a networking site, I would be happy to answer questions if someone contacted me about someone I worked with, or somewhere I used to work.

Thank you! I would be the same if someone contacted me on LI. I'm used to networking and knowledge sharing in my industry, so reaching out to people you haven't met before is not seen weird.

Apparently GD can't remove reviews unless they break their policy. Very unlucky they removed yours.

I had a gagging order so they probably sent them a copy of it !! Good luck whatever you decide.

I get that but I can just see it going
'So, X, do you have any questions for us'
'Yes, just wondering why you have such poor ratings on glass door'
(interview panel coughs and splutters)
'Er, so we have a few more candidates to see and we'll be in touch'
(sound of crickets)

OK maybe not exactly like that but it's unlikely to land well in an interview setting. If OP desperately needs this question answering and the interviewers are the only ones who can answer it I'd at least wait until offer stage.

Edited

Do all the how do you prove you have a good team questions good working conditions

I did or did not like this about my old jobs

I was doing research on what a great co you were to work for and Shocked! to see the GD reviews which of cource you would not be aware of...

Its part depending on how good you can read people and if you can chat with whoever meets you at door (if not doing the interview)

Problem of waiting for an offer is
• recruiter has stopped offering the good jobs
• you upset recruiter by raising the jobs hopes and the job offers better commission prospects.

Its a balancing act

That's exactly it. I know some people say you haven't got an interview, why overthinking it, etc. But before I give consent to the recruiter to put me forward as a candidate, I need to be 100% sure I want the job and am willing to go through the process until the end.

I got in trouble with a recruiter before when I changed my mind after they invited me to an interview. Not a good look for them and it damaged my relationship.
