Not handing in my notice. Am I overworrying?

I got offered a new job on Friday (after 3 interview rounds). It's a more senior role in a differnet company. The process was managed by a recruitment agency.

On Friday - the agent called me and we negotiated on salary and she went back and forth between the company and me - and we agreed a salary. She also talked about how keen they were for me to start as soon as poss

The consultant then emailed me on Friday night copying in the company HR/CEO with the offer in writing and saying that the next steps would be with the company. I replied saying how delighted I was.

And then silence. I know it's only been one/two working days but the silence feels weird. I didn't hand in my notice yet. I'm worried tthey've had a chagne of heart.

Am i being crazy? Woulld they have expected me to hand in my notice on that basis? i'm waiting to hear from the company directly but maybe they've presumed i have handed in my notice based on the email from the recruitment company?

Do not hand in your notice until you have a signed contract for your new role.

Do not hand in your notice until you have a signed contract for your new role.

They don't have to give her a contract u til start date. She needs a conditional offer letter with a start date contained therein.

She should telephone and agree a start date, explain she needs a letter before submitting resignation.

Absolutely do not hand in your notice until you have a firm offer in writing. Dh is very glad he waited for this once, as a couple of months later he was still waiting, with all the promises of 'its guaranteed, just paperwork problems'. He got something else.

It's only been one working day! It only takes 1 person to have been on leave, sick or busy yesterday to make it feel like radio silence. Maybe give them a ring in a couple of days to confirm start date, but, as pp, don't resign until you have your job offer and start date in writing!

Good luck. It can be an unsettling time changing jobs, even for a job you want.

The offer is in writing in an email but from the recruitment consultant. Not a word direct from the company. I'll call in a couple of days. Just don't want them to feel miffed I haven't cracked on and handed in my notice

There was actually a great job going I didn't apply for over the weekend as had got this offer! Silly me. I really need a new job (currnet place in trouble) so no time to mess around! Maybe that's making me feel anxious.

The recruitment consultant might be waiting on you confirming your leaving date from your current role. If you email them with the provisional date and ask for a contract with the start date that you have given her that might make it easier for you to hand your notice in. Also have they checked your references that is usually done at this time ?

SugarSuga · 28/01/2025 11:14

Yeah - they haven't even mentioned references @needapokerface . Recruitment consultant messaged me on Friday evening saying "hope you plan on spending the weekend celebrating". And now on Tuesday - it all feels a lot more vague and uncertain. I did email the recruitment consultnat and she said all next steps to dealt with by company. It's a major step up so maybe i'm overworrying as feel they're having 2nd thoughts.

Honestly OP, give them a chance! I work for a large organisation and HR are crap in regards to issuing contracts, it can take weeks. Don't hand your notice in until everything is sorted and contract signed and apply for other jobs if they come up just in case.
