Midday supervisors

Hi,
Are there any mid day supervisors on here? Thinking of applying for the job, but wondering what happens if you needed a day off. How does that work? Are mid day supervisors allowed to take the odd day here and there off? Would it be classed as unpaid leave? As this is a position that is not in my children’s primary school, I would sometimes need the day off as the school has different inset days etc. Thanks

I don't know for sure but as they are term time contracts, you wouldn't usually have leave to book I think. Would be great to find another parent who can trade some childcare with you perhaps.

My Dsis did it and as the PP says, they are term time so any absense would be unpaid.

That’s fair enough. Unpaid leave. I just wanted to check if it would be a big problem to take unpaid leave. It would just be the odd day here because of inset days

Not being paid is one thing but being absent could cause them staffing issues so if you think you are going to be taking the odd day off (apart from unforseen illness etc) then I think you need to be upfront right from the start.

That’s fair enough too@Nourishinghandcream valid point. Will discuss and let them know should I be offered the job

Tbh most schools would expect you to make other childcare arrangements for non emergency childcare (such as other school inset days as these are published in advance, unlike leave for a child being ill) unless you were on a zero hours contract. It would definitely be unpaid.

I work in a school office and dinner ladies taking days off are not only unpaid, but can make life hard for everyone else as cover needs to be found, which is often the teachers who are overworked anyway
