Take new job or stay

Sorry for the long post. I’m looking for outside opinions as I really don’t know what to do…

I’ve been at my work for about 7 years. I use to really love it but as the years past my team has changed and the work I am doing is no longer as interesting as it once was. Im pretty bored there now.

My work also previously left a bad taste in my mouth as they were really awful when I returned from maternity leave a few years ago.

I’ve very recently been promoted to the highest position I can reach there. The pay is decent (although I think they low balled me with the promotion) and I’m not under much pressure. I also get to work part time and have a lot of flexibility (I have 2 small kids).

I’ve been approached for a job with a smaller company. The same position at my current company but with a really good pay rise and I’ve been promised interesting work. I would also work with some of my old team.

This new company does have some red flags however - they seem very disorganised and have a fairly high staff turnover over. I would also be expected to work ‘harder’ than I am doing now.

I initially intended to stay for a bit and try to improve the position at my current place, but the above offer won’t stick around for long.

So WWYD? Stay in a comfortable boring job or jump to the riskier but potentially more fulfilling one?

I'd probably try and do some more research. How much do you need the flexibility- is it more of a just in case?

How old are the kids ... do they get every bug going? If you have backup, the new job sounds much better for you,

If something seems too good to be true it usually is. Better the devil you know perhaps.

I would bide my time , stay put for now and do more research about the requirements of this new job.
Chances are that with high turnover the position will become vacant again in a few months so you can reassess then.

Don't be too quick to jump! The jobs market isn't good at the moment and having a job that can be flexible to help with your family circumstances is a big deal. There is a reason companies have high turnover and it isn't good.
