Anyone ever requested this at work? How much did the company offer you in terms of settlement? In an impossible situation at work and got told this was an option. Thing is I need a job due to outgoings and other finance issues so need at least 6 months to tide me over and to feel comfortable about leaving a job?

In my organisation (public sector) the maximum HR could offer was six months salary plus a set sum towards legal costs.

I suspect it'll be "at most six months" not "at least", and probably a lot less than that, unless you have something damning on them.

Bear in mind that any settlement payment should be tax free, so it will stretch a bit further than your regular salary would have done. My workplace offers 3 months max.

Possibly in the public sector you may get 6 months but in the private sector, 3 months would be considered generous.

BlackBean2023 · 20/01/2025 18:05

I'm a public sector HR Director and been in my role nearly 5 years. I've never had a settlement agreement cross my desk for signing that's more than 4 months salary.

Unless there's something I believed you could claim then if you approached me I'd offer you contractual notice and a good reference and let you leave. If you weren't happy I'd suggest you resign, your employer doesn't owe you 6 months + wagesConfused

I think only the first 30k is tax free?

I have something damming on them! Thoughts?
