Back to the office in new job. Any tips/advice?

Hi, I’ve recently left an admin job after 12 years in, was working 5 days a week, 4 from home. My new job is in the office 5 days a week. I feel like it’s been a long time since I was in an office environment for a big chunk of my week! I wanted to be back in the office so I can leave work at work and be more sociable with others.

Am nervous around my new colleagues anyway but just wondered if anyone have any advice or tips for integrating successfully? I feel like I’ve been out of it for so long and don’t want to make any faux pas! :-)

I was thinking of bringing cake or something but I don’t know if anyone likes it or is diabetic or cutting down and don’t want to offend!

If you want to take something in do it on your first Friday a kind of 'thanks for being so welcoming' thing. I wouldn't have thought of it but a recent recruit just did this and it went down really well.

Good luck!

Fab idea @lightsuns , hopefully by the end of the week I can get the lay of the land and try to work out what’s ok to bring in or not, thank you!

I took a box of biscuits into a courier company I’d just joined in 2015 and it went down a real treat, both then and into 2017 when an ex employer welcomed me back such happy memories. I wouldn’t worry about offending, I did think twice handing over something last month at interview (when the company were most lenient when I had a panic over finding their location and I had another date given) then thinking that could be taken wrongly but if you are in a job less trouble is my thought.

@Ladymuck2022 thank you. I suppose I’m overthinking, they don’t have to eat them if they don’t want to, I just want to start off well and I’m so nervous as I’ve been out of the office for many years and want to make a good impression. I did start bringing in cakes at my last job when I was in the office more (before covid) which seemed to go down well but that’s because I knew my colleagues for years and knew their likes and dislikes. Thanks for your input.

People's snacking habits have changed dramatically in the last few years.
Organic of course blah blah 😂
I wouldn't try to gain popularity by this. Just offer to get everyone a coffee, a water, a juice whatever. You'll offend someone 😂😂

What about a little platter with both fruit and sweet treats, so there's something for everyone?
