Changing Profession in your 50s - too old for social work?

I am currently considering a bit of a career change. I've been in criminal justice for 13 years, and im thinking of going into social work instead. Its still stepping up to help people, but in a more supportive than punitive way.

Im confident that i can cope with the demands of the training (brain is fuzzy but still works quite well!), but are employers likely to think im too old, and they wont get their money's worth out of me?

Started my career in SW the week before my 50th birthday, after completing the Diploma.

I’m C&F and love it.

Would highly recommend.

I’m at uni studying social work right now, and at 50 you would definitely not be the oldest one on my course!

Life experience counts for a lot in SW.

Go for it x

Not too old at all!

Not too old at all. And life experiences are so helpful too.

I was doing my degree 15 years ago and the vast majority of us were mature students and the oldest in my cohort was in their late 60s.
