Working mum stuck in a rut

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for some advice as a mum of two who is about to return to work part time after maternity leave.

ive been part time in my profession since having my first, I work as a document controller in the construction industry and I enjoy my job to an extent, I would say I’m content. My employer is flexible and supportive but it is made clear they would love me to return full time (which I don’t intend to do whilst my children are so little.)

i feel very stuck in a rut, I would love the opportunity to earn more money without having to compromise too much more of my time (I know, who wouldn’t!), I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience with any companies who offer freelance admin work or perhaps typing etc. Without blowing my own trumpet I am very good at my job, however I feel like asking for a pay rise isn’t on the cards as I would feel rude having being on maternity, perhaps down the line I would be able to.

I'm wanting to explore some options to try and make a bit of extra income and try not live pay check to pay check, before I begin to reevaluate my career choices and look at other paths.

I don’t know if I’m looking for the impossible and trying to have it all, I suppose I’m just feeling like I would love to provide more for my girls and want to know if anyone has any first hand experience with how.

I hope this makes sense and any chat/guidance appreciated.

thank you.

Why don't you compromise and up your hours not necessarily to full time but do a few more. Your employer sounds supportive. I don't think there is a much call these days for freelance typing work.

Thank you @Viviennemary, yes it is an option but then I’ll have to pay additional childcare which will cost me more than what I make for the additional hours, bit of a catch unfortunately.
