Hi all

Hope your well

I have a band 6 interview coming up related to committee type admin work.. i am really struggling to think about what will come up during the interview the type of questions they may ask?

has anyone had a band 6 interview? If so what sort of things can I be expected to be asked?.. I have had other interviews but nothing related to the NHS thank you x

It really depends on what type of role your applying for.

FlamingoYellow · 06/01/2025 11:43

Have a look at what your Trust's values are because they normally ask at least one question about that.

The other questions would depend on the specific job.

Have they said if it will be a values and competencies based interview? If so, Google nhs band 6 values & competency interviews and you’ll get lots of examples. You could also add the Board/Trust into your search as they may have uploaded them.

I would suggest coming up with 3 or 4 scenarios that you’ve worked on where you can show how you demonstrated eg communication, quality, compassion, technical skills, service improvement, a challenge. Try and use the STAR approach too - so explain what you did in terms of the situation, task, actions you did, and the results. That will help you to stay on track and keep your answers focused.

This is a great answer for nhs interviews

Ex NHS HR here.

Everything you need is in the person spec and JD for the role. You should be able to see the sorts of responsibilities and tasks that the role has and prepare examples of how you have previously used the skills to deliver such work. Use the STAR approach to structure your answers. Build a little portfolio of them and use whichever you need to answer the questions you get asked.

You’ll presumably have done some of this in the application form.

Sometimes there is a tick box that says how the different elements of the person spec will be tested, which will tell you which are in the interview.

A band 6 is going to be expected to pick it up pretty quickly and use initiative.

@Miss2820
How did it go?

Not good news unfortunately I was unsuccessful- quite disappointed to be honest :(

Oh I’m so sorry OP 😢 How do you felt the interview went? If it’s a job or field you’re really interested in then I would really recommend getting feedback so that you can work on the areas that need a bit of development. I’m always amazed at the number of people that don’t ask me for feedback after unsuccessful interviews- often it’s just a couple of small areas that need improvement that could swing things in their favour next time round.

Too be honest the manager on the phone was quite in a rush to get off the phone before I could even ask..
she gave some feedback but was very quick mainly about the responses I gave them to some questions the other person answered slightly better than me.

That’s rubbish of her. If you’re feeling up to it I’d follow it up with an email thanking her for giving you the opportunity to interview, say that it’s a role/field that you’re really keen to move into and ask if she ca provide you with more detailed feedback to enable you you to identify areas for development. You have the right to this if you want it.
