Admin job help

Hello,

I currently work in a nursery I have done for nearly 10 years as a team leader and recently the job is giving me such anxiety and borderline depression. I don’t enjoy it like I used to and I dread going in and it’s now affecting my personal life so I need to leave asap.

I have been trying to find a new job in admin ideally as I feel like something like this will fit around my children best. I’ve applied for a few admin type roles. Some I have got interviews others not but really struggling to just get my foot in the door due to experience. Can anyone help. How did you first get into admin if you do it currently? I’m struggling for any change of career as childcare is all I have known currently.

just looking for advice to change career really. How people get into admin easily or any jobs that fit around young children.

thank you!

Have a look at civil service admin roles. I believe there is a big recruitment drive at the moment across the country for case administrators for the Probation Service. The application process is tedious but as an employer, there is great flexibility around child care, good pension etc.

You most likely do some admin in the nursery - recording observations, planning, writing reports, tracking children's progress for Ofsted.

Accurate record keeping and GDPR, data protection etc all important with keeping children's and parents details up to date and confidential. Then liaising with stakeholders eg parents, childminders, schools, social workers, health visiting team etc in person and on phone/emails.

You may just need to tweak your cv as you will have a lot of transferable skills.

Agree with PP you need to make sure you've got plenty of admin skills on your CV.
Most admin posts now are asking for either a qualification or previous admin experience

What about admin in a school? Your obviously DBS checked, understanding of children, perhaps have a first aid certificate. Can you use Microsoft office? Do you have GCSE maths and English or equivalent? Good communication skills face to face and written?
For every essential \ desirable skill write a comment that fulfills it from your own experience. Admin support is essential in almost all businesses, look at apprenticeship positions too, they are not just for 16 to 18 years and you can get a qualification in business admin too. I teach in FE and currently have learners who are adults doing admin apprenticeships who work in school offices, libraries, nursing homes, FE admin, social services and private businesses. Good luck with your search.
