Anyone done an access to HE course in midwifery?

Hello not pregnancy related but I'm looking into doing an access to HE in midwifery, in hopes to get into uni and do a midwifery apprenticeship. I don't have science GCSE but I have maths and English. I do doubt myself a lot but it's something I really want to do, I haven't passed most my GCSEs so I feel like I wouldn't have the brain to actually do this. Has anyone any advice or felt the same?

Thanks x

I teach on one - fantastic course but goes at a very fast past. Suggest you get your science GCSE first though. I think it would be tough to do without the sound foundations in science to build upon. Also it may limit your options for UCAS applications for a midwifery place. Have you considered a level 3 BTEC in health and social care as an alternative pathway. Takes 2 years but it's a lot less intensive - it has been funded for one more year so it would be an option if your local college offers it.

Do you have maths and english as these are required for a place on both courses?

Hello, yes I have maths & English and a level 2 health and social care diploma, I contacted the uni to ask about the science and they replied with "Yes it would meet the science requirement if includes 21 Level 3 credits of Human Biology/Human Physiology/Anatomy" so if I did that in the access to HE course it would be used as an equivalent I'm guessing

Thankyou for replying!! X

Each college can choose its Access awarding organisation and their preferred units. It just goes at a very fast pace, I would suggest finding out what will be studied and spend the months before it doing some independent study so you don't get overwhelmed. Sounds like you will be good to go then. Maybe get some hours in working in some sort of healthcare setting too to boost your UCAS application too as midwifery is very competitive but the universities definitely like the access course and my students almost always get the offers they want and need. :-)

You get a couple credits per unit though, I wouldn't get just a straight 21 credits I don't think in biology alone, unless they meant 21 credits overall for all units on the course? And thankyou for the advice I will do that! I am a healthcare assistant currently in the hospital and when I come off maternity leave I'm going to be banking phlebotomy! I've been a HCA for 4 years so hopefully that helps :) thankyou
