Hi,

I have been in my current job for one year and since I started have had a pretty tough time mostly due to a very toxic, bullying manager, poor definition of roles
and a zero-liability CEO who will do/say anything to make himself look good, has temper tantrums and is mostly unavailable … far too busy to deal with staff, address issues etc. I’ve not had my
induction yet and been there a year. I have gone home in tears many times… the workload is immense and nobody seems
to know what they are doing! There is so much gossiping, whispering and blaming in the office. Also no flexibility, no WFH… I commute every day for short shifts.

i work part time but still pay a fair whack for holiday clubs in the school
hols. Around 20 employees. 5 in the office. I am on £16 per hour. I am in the north and have a skilled admin type job (not degree level but level 7 diploma). Possibility to earn more in a few years…. But don’t think I can put up with the people for long enough to get to that point.

A job has come up locally - £18 ph, small family run business (5 employees). Business Has been running for generations and has a good reputation. 3 hrs less per week than what I am on at the moment but the net pay is very similar (about £80 per month less). All cloud based, can wfh. Probably a lot more informal. As long as everything gets done I could
work the hours I choose. Smaller business so possibly less secure…. Would have to learn the ropes of the industry but I think i could pick it up…

Both have statutory pension contributions and holidays, no frills.

Would you take the leap and go for the new one ?

I live in a very rural area and jobs don’t come up much! No luck with applying for remote positions online.

It's not even a close race.

I suppose it’s the fear of change and going to work for a very very small business . But the current lady (leaving soon) has been there for 12 years, which tells me it must be quite secure.
