How many interviews have you done?

How many interviews have you done recently when you've applied for a job.

I'm asking, because I was originally told that I'd be doing two interviews for a job.

They just sent me an email saying "you have been successful at the second intervview" on the title.

When I read that , I was thinking "yes!".

As the two interviews were very difficult and very long.

Then I read further down the email, and it said

"we have decided that we are getting candidates for this role, to do a third and final interview with a different HR person. Please send us your availability for the next interview."

Aghh.

I thought it was two and I was done. Id either get the job or not get it. They are long and complicated interviews.

Now, I have more nerves and stress for another week.

I know that I have to respect what they do, it's their company, I just came on here to vent a little bit about the stress.

How many interviews are normal these days ?.

My brother recently had 3 'interviews' for one company. Interview with HR for screening, interview with his immediate bosses and then a meet and greet interview with the big bosses and was successful.

For context he has a background in microscopy science and now works in Health and Safety for a global health services company.

Thanks for they reply

I'm wrecked from interviews. I hate the interview stage. I just want it to be over, amd know I'm either in the job or not!

One more to go. I can do this.

I've been interviewing this week and it's exhausting isn't it. A 3rd interview sounds like you're very nearly there, keep going 💪

Good luck!

RamblingEclectic · 05/12/2024 15:28

Hoping the best for you with the next interview, the interview trenches are such a drain.

Not me, but the worst I've seen is with my older son who did 5 interviews for one of the companies, and more than once only told him there were more after. He is happy now at a different company.

For my latest, it was two - one with the recruiters and one with the actual department.

loropianalover · 05/12/2024 15:30

I once interviewed for a large American company and did phone call with junior recruiter, CV check call with senior recruiter, interview prep call with junior recruiter, 30 min interview via Zoom with 2 HR/recruitment staff, 45min Zoom interview with team manager & potential colleague, 30min Zoom interview with head of department.

Never again! You sometimes just get sucked up in the process. I would never do any more than 2 interviews now.

HundredMilesAnHour · 05/12/2024 15:32

At my current employer, the average is usually 4-5 interviews but when I've interviewed elsewhere myself I've had up to 8 interviews.

Wow that's six!

I'm 40 so I've twenty years in the working world.

All of my jobs were just one interview, bar one, which had two interviews.

They definitely seem to be doing more interviews these days. I wonder why.

You've had a different experience from me. I'm 54 and with the exception of bar work / waitressing etc, I don't think I've ever had less than 3 interviews for a job since I left uni. Frequently more than 3. I haven't seen any difference in volume of interviews throughout my career (Financial Services).

Penguinsn · 05/12/2024 16:57

One and a test then offered the job, second job applied for and much better than the first job. Most places in my field have 2 interviews, very rare to have 3, an American company once. Specialist field.

Good luck, hope you get it.

The most I've ever had is two. Three seems excessive - there has to be a better way to narrow down the candidate pool. It makes me feel that they can't be decisive which just puts me off.

HundredMilesAnHour · 06/12/2024 11:32

Good luck for what is hopefully (!) your final interview @Mearabade Please let us know how it goes.

I've been interviewing candidates for some roles we're hiring for all this week. From an interviewer's perspective, it can also be quite hard. I've had a couple of sleepless nights over the decisions I needed to make. I had a candidate that I really liked but had to reject after second interview. I still feel sad about it and I know she's gutted but it was done in her best interests (even though it won't feel like that to her right now). We're hiring for demanding roles and we need to make sure we get it right as we don't want to set someone up to fail by putting them into a role which they're not ready for. Interviewers are human too, we're not monsters. Our interview process is very thorough (and it needs to be) and very few people make it as far as offer stage.

Toomuch2019 · 06/12/2024 11:45

5 for my current role although it is senior so fairly normal at this level.

Don't forget that the process is 2 ways. More interviews give you more chance to suss them out also, which can be helpful when changing organisations

allfurcoatnoknickers · 06/12/2024 12:04

I once had EIGHT at a giant financial services firm. And then I didn't get the job, they went with an internal candidate instead 🙄

Ladymuck2022 · 07/12/2024 16:12

I just thank the lord when these employers starting adding layers to the interview process.

Attended job interview 28th told making decision by Monday 2nd Dec (which is the time really I needed to hand in notice to serve a month to meet start date of new employer) but I actually heard Friday 29th I was being offered a second interview. I attended that second interview to hear nothing further yet which I’m taking it isn’t the best sign, quite possibly strikes me they are bringing back everyone interviewed on that 28th.

To me a lot of these interviews aren’t clear they contain more rounds and that is sad. I’m mixed but the more rounds a potential employer adds is to their detriment.

Just out of interest, did your previous employer know you were interviewing, or if not, how did you schedule 5 interviews around work?

I resigned and had some downtime before job hunting, but there is no way I could have taken the time off required to interview for a new job without arousing suspicion (office based, fairly senior role).

GoodGollyMsMolly · 08/12/2024 00:33

Three to get in. And three for promotion.

Toomuch2019 · 08/12/2024 08:37

@Sallysoup I work fairly flexibly from home and can start/finish when I want within reason so managed to get slots at either early/late in the day or lunch break time (and they were flexible in the interview and end) and then just stay logged on later.

All were virtual so easier to navigate.

Thanks! That makes sense.

macaroonmayhem · 08/12/2024 21:04

Ranges from 1-3 for me. Bigger companies seem to be an initial hr screener/eligibility to work, then panel interview then a final senior interview. But I’ve also had a single interview or a two stage assessment/interview. There’s no consistency!

aodirjjd · 08/12/2024 21:10

I think 2 is common but like you’d I’d strop at 3!
