IT not working, management unsympathetic

(apologies purposely being vague about the exact equipment as don’t want to get outed.)

I have ASD and work a low paid job with poor management.
My awful job involves a daily rota, where people have to ‘open’ or ‘close’ a very niche technical system which involves lots of manual steps.
It’s laborious repetitive work, but just one of those things you have to suck up. We’re also quite short staffed at the moment so on average I’m on the rota 3 or 4 times a week.

We have a special hardware ‘token’ that plugs into our laptop (like a memory stick would) to allow you to access this system.
Just my luck my ‘token’ equipment has an error code, won’t work normally and when troubleshooting via the manual guide it says it needs returning to the company. It’s created by a third party tech company, so IT service desk can’t fix other than turn it off and on again. It costs my company a lot so they are reluctant to order me a new one.

The only way I can get round it is working from the office as those desktops don’t require this ‘token’, it’s for remote access to the system. But because of the very low pay, I can’t afford to commute to the London office daily and my contract only requires 1 day a week attendance. No one else attends office more than this, and as it’s low paid job none of our team even live in London.

I feel extremely stressed because my company don’t seem to care to fix it urgently despite needing for BAU tasks when it’s not something I’ve even damaged.
I’ve told my manager and they’ve given me no advice other than to wait for IT service desk. They’ve not removed me from the rota either so I feel extremely guilty having to beg colleagues to cover my shift (if management say they need to cover it would be different but I’m the one who has to do it so sure they’re extremely resentful of me). Also, we’re already a short staffed and low paid team, which makes me feel worse

does anyone have any advice on how I can argue my case? I feel like my manager is simply blaming me when it’s a technical fault out of my control
Also, excuse my ignorance but shouldn’t management maybe have a contingency plan for this type of issue?

Are you talking about a Yubikey?

in business terms those are not expensive. In personal terms they are hardly expensive. IT at any decent sized company should have a drawer of them and should just assign you a new one.
