Do I apply for new job or not?

I’ve been in my current role just under two years. It was a new job straight after mat leave and felt like a scary step at the time as my confidence had been knocked by my previous role in a toxic environment. I’m now happy in my role, it is quite stressful at times and the workload is definitely more than the 4 days I work, but I’m making an impact and I feel valued, respected and that I have influence.

It is however a long commute (1 hr 40 each way) and as a result I only work in the office 1 day a week. Ideally I’d like to wfh a bit less, but I can’t due to nursery pick ups and cost.

I’ve seen a role that would be an ideal next role for me - close to home (it would cut at least 50 min off my commute each way) so I could go into the office more, better benefits and much better pension (local gov), similar salary but possibly more responsibility and advertised as full time (rather than part time which I am now). I know it’s exactly the thing I’d be looking for if I was actively looking to leave my current role, and feel like I should apply as I know the next opportunity doesn’t always appear when you want it.

Would you apply just to see what happened? Even if you weren’t sure you were ready to move?

I don’t have quite all the experience they’re looking for so may well not get an interview anyway!

I'd apply, it sounds like it could be good for you.

I’d definitely apply and give it a go. No one will match all the criteria.

Thank you, I threw together an application at the 11th hour.
