Why do I do these things!

I work (p/t) as a consultant in quite a specialist area, and so I'm quite often asked to go and 'speak' at industry events/ functions etc.

So ages ago I was asked to go and do this 'event' this evening. I agreed.
And now suddenly it is TONIGHT! Aaargh!

Although I have done it tonnes of times before, I always feel the same - really nervous, slightly sick, upset tummy, a bit panicky...

Once I get there I will be fine, but it's all the waiting around etc this afternoon....

Someone please tell me I will be all right.

It'll be grand.
Always seems like a good idea at the time, doesn't it?

Got any Rescue Remedy in the house?

Either that, or get someone to drive you and have a large G&T...

NormaSnorks · 29/04/2008 14:45

I know. I say 'yes' because I think it's good to 'push myself' occasionally now that I only work p/t. And it's obviously good for contacts/ networking/ future business.

But I really think I'm going to barf any minute!

You will be all right! Calm down!
I always get like this before a talk. I have a few housr of really believing I can't possibly go through with it (I think, I'm going to get up there and forget how to talk! how do you put one word in front of the other in a sentence that makes sense?)
And....it always goes just fine
I hate it though. Even the feeling of relief afterwards isn't enough to make me feel ok about it! though I have found that I tend to feel nervous less far in advance.
Just think, tomorrow it will be over

nickytwotimes · 29/04/2008 14:47

Have a wee treat for yourself afterwards - a big bath or a glass of wine or even a favourite tv show. That always helps.

NormaSnorks · 29/04/2008 14:48

Yes - you're right, Elliott - the feeling afterwards is almost worth it - sort of post-exam euphoria!

I just spoke to DH and he did the practical bloke 'solution/ solving' thing - told me they wouldn't have asked me if I couldn't do it/ I should think about the benefits, blah, blah

Won't be back till late nicky... no time for treats tonight... but will take tomorrow off!

Well, he's right really isn't he. I just always tell myself, ok I've been here before, I have done it well before, and these feelings of nerves are just irrational things that get in the way. bloody annoying though.

NormaSnorks · 29/04/2008 14:52

I'm also thinking, well, tomorrow I can invoice them !

Just think how lightfooted you will feel when you realise how many people have benefitted from it

aaah norma, I have to do something v similar tonight (tho not drive 40 miles!) and rather wish it was NOW and not at 8 o'clock. It's my 4th time and v similar every year but it's the sea of faces- are they bored, did you muck up etc etc.

Am wondering if I'll be in too late for a LARGE glass of wine.

Good luck x

NormaSnorks · 29/04/2008 15:03

and to you, happystory!

I'm off to find some suitable clothing in my wardrobe....
