Hi all
Just started a wfh 9-3 job. M- F
Anyone else have this set up? What's your day like? Ie do you clean in your breaks or go for a run? I feel like I'm going to go a bit stir crazy! Also my husband wfh 3 days a week and I feel we get on top of each other a bit. At 3 school pick up and then I'm taxi for after school clubs. It's either work, or kids. Need to make more me time within this! And not just watching crap TV! think I need a kick up the ar*e 😁

Just be pleased it it not office based with a one hour commute at each end of the day.
I think the problem with wfh is that there is no social contact with the others. You need to make sure you get some time for yourself. Go for a walk, alone, during your lunch break.

45 min lunch and 2 x 15 mins breaks then you are just watching the clock until you finish either 16:30; 16:45 or 17:00

Sometimes walk, clean or sometimes shut eyes for 45 mins.

I’ve known sales companies expect ppl to get suited booted and show respect to the working day but in my latest role they could not care if you turned up in pj’s all day long. one or two days per month they may claim to care about staff wellbeing but all very staged.

9_5 30 mins lunch

Hugmorecats · 30/11/2024 22:28

I do 9-5 from home. Try to get out for my lunch breaks so that I leave the house. I go shopping or to a cafe or just for a walk and listen to music.

Why will you go stir crazy? 6 hour day sounds bliss to me and will fly by surely?

winterdarkness · 30/11/2024 22:36

Sit down at about 9:00 to start work. If lucky, stop for 20 minutes for lunch. Again of lucky, stop work by 7pm.

Few quick trips to the kitchen to make tea or refill my water.

Occasionally I find 10 minutes to put a washing on

I do 7.5 hours 5 days a week. I can start at 6am and finish at 8pm. I start at 6 and finish at 11.30. Then split my day by walking the dogs and doing the housework. Works out better as I'm the 2nd half of work. Ie I check others work and complete it. They mainly don't start till 7.30. So I log back on about 4pm and work till 6pm finishing that off. Can also work flexi if needed. Very relaxed and all work is done well within time. I cant see me ever going back to the office. All about time management for me and saving hours to do other things.

mynameiscalypso · 30/11/2024 22:42

I do 9-3 for two days a week and then do longer hours on the other three days. My early-finish days are generally manic as the time goes so fast. I'm also an expert procrastinator and decide to leave something until the end of the day only to realise that 3pm is the actual end of my day and I'm screwed. Typically, I'll be on calls most of the time. I tend to have a late lunch when DS has a snack after school.

You won't get a break on a 6 hour day?

If you work for more than 6 hours a day, you're entitled to an uninterrupted rest break of at least 20 minutes - for example a tea or lunch break. You must be allowed to take it during the day rather than at the beginning or end.

Fair point! I'll just sit at my computer then 👍

I love it, I work 9-5 4 days a week.

Drop kids off at school 8.30, walk dog and log on by 9am. I usually eat and work as my lunch break is grabbing the kids from school.

FusionChefGeoff · 30/11/2024 23:24

CAn you afford / access wrap around care just for 1 morning / 1 afternoon? Having an extra hour will make a huge difference otherwise your brain will be spinning with absolutely no down time - that's the one good thing about a commute!!

NewName24 · 30/11/2024 23:25

It depends on what you have to do for your job.

Some people have to 'be there' during certain hours, for team meetings, answering client / customer / public 's call, delivering training, delivering presentations, supervising colleagues, etc etc.
Others, can fit their (in your case) 6 hours in more flexibly to suit how they work best.

So for me (supposed to work 7.5 hours a day) I will often stop at about 10.30 and hang out some washing or prep some dinner for the slow cooker, or to marinade or whatever, which I can, because I stop the clock at the same time, and that isn't part of my working hours.

So, if other people aren't reliant on you being there at the computer / end of the phone, then you can walk the dog / put the dinner on / go for a run as you can spread your 6 hours across a 9 or 10 hour period.
But it sounds as if you don't want to work after 3, so therefore your choice is to work 6 hours straight, or start earlier, and have your dh do the drop off at school if you are doing the pick up.

That is what you are being paid for?
Why wouldn't you sit at your screen rather than clean and go for a run whilst being paid to work?
You may find that it is logged remotely to check how long you are away from screen,

Long term WFH employee here - I tend to put on a load of laundry before logging on, and then hang it out whilst waiting for the kettle to boil during a tea break later on. Or I'll chuck something in the slow cooker.

Try and get up and move around a bit during the day - it's easy to get back or neck pain. If you were in the office you'd probably be walking around to meeting rooms or the kitchen so try and replicate that a bit.

A lunchtime walk is a good idea, or I'll watch a 20 minute sit com over lunch. When my husband also works from home we will discuss in advance if we'll try and have 30 mins together over lunch or if we're eating separately.

I love being able to have a hot lunch - baked beans or eggs on toast normally. And I always have nice slippers now because I wear them all the time.
