Think I’m about to lose my job, pregnant, redundancy pay?

Hello there

Wondering if anyone can help me. I think the company I work for is about to go under. Not that I think it’ll make any difference but I’m 5 months pregnant and so I’m worrying about my finances and my future. The company don’t offer any sort of redundancy packages (or maternity pay)... I’ve done a bit of research and found on the government website some info on redundancy pay but I wondered if anyone has any experience? I’ve worked there for 11 years, so I could be entitled to quite a good amount (enough to see me through maternity leave)- but is this really available to anyone? Is it government funded? If anyone has experienced similar…please help me!!

If the company goes under before you have left then you would be on the government statutory redundancy pay (which is peanuts).

if you really think the company is on it's last legs then make sure you get expenses claimed, take leave so they don't owe you anything. And apply for new jobs!

If you are made redundant and the company goes into liquidation you will be paid redundancy by the Redundancy Payments Service, you can also claim holiday pay and notice pay, it is also tax free. Depending on how busy they are you will be paid directly. Yes, it’s funded by Government.

If your employer cannot afford to pay their employees redundancy then they can go through government Insolvency Service. The only thing I would say though is if it does go that way then it can take a lot longer than if employer pays it. When paid by employer it usually is paid on your last day working, if going through gov then it can take 6-8 weeks, depending on how quickly employer gets all the info together etc

This is good advice!

Government funded redundancy isn't very much from what I recall - maybe a month and it equates to a month's pay I think. I believe it is fairly quick to be processed though.
