Do you always hear back after job interview?

I had an interview Monday last week- they said at the end I "should" hear back by the end of the week.

I've heard nothing- do you always get a response even if it's a no?

I thought the interview went really well, and I got good vibes throughout. I haven't had a job interview in a very long time though so not sure what generally happens?

Email them. Say thank you for taking the time for the interview looking forward to hearing from you still Interested blah

Well I thought basic manners after interview, given only a few people to contact, yes. However I had an interview recently and was told I’d hear early the next week, several weeks later I literally never heard a word. So darned rude.

If they've said you should hear back I would expect at the very least an email rejection. It is incredibly rude when firms don't even do that when someone has given up their time to interview and I hope they realise word travels and they will simply narrow their potential recruitment pool if they continue to treat people with a lack of politeness. I can understand not responding to all CVs but when you've sat in a room with someone for 30mins to an hour have some decency. As you can tell I feel quite passionate about this.

I always hear back from interviews, whether it’s yes or no.

I agree with @Silvertulips , drop them an email saying thanks, still interested etc and ask if they have a timeframe for making a decision.

They've likely offered it to someone, and given them the weekend to think it over. If that person declines you might well be next in line, so don't give up yet.

Yes I imagine it's something like this

It's often this, though obviously poor taste to not let you know an accurate timescale.

I'm still waiting to hear back from the University of Bath after they interviewed me for a 12 month fixed term contract 3 years ago. They were rude and uninterested from the beginning of the interview so I've never bothered to chase them up. I don't know why they arranged the interview if they weren't going to give me a proper chance. I'd had to prepare a 15 min presentation for it as well.

Have you emailed? Haha sorry seriously though that's shit and I will remember that about the university of bath and their reputation is now mud to me

It possible means they want another candidate, but you were close enough that you would meat the criteria if the other person doesn't take up the offer, so they're putting off telling you either way to keep their options open.

I haven't emailed as I didn't know if that was the correct thing to do? If I don't hear back by early next week should I do this?

I don't have direct experience in this field (it's very very niche so I doubt many people would!) but I have relevant experience, my current line of work is very highly regarded.

I presented to the board as part of the interview, they said several times that it was very impressive and they could tell a lot of thought and research had gone into it.

Several of the questions in the competency based interview were skipped as they said I'd already addressed what they were going to ask in my presentation.

One board member kept interrupting the questions to keep complimenting my presentation and say how much he enjoyed it. The MD had to stop him in the end and laughed and said "come on Barry yes you've said this several times now we need to carry on with the rest of the questions".

One of the board members apologised for the length of the interview and said "just a few more questions and we won't keep you any longer", I replied that it was absolutely fine and I was enjoying the interview. They all chuckled and said they'd never had anyone say that!

They were very friendly, asked about my notice period and all the standard things like that. I almost felt at the end that they were almost trying to sell the job to me as they felt it was a step down from my current role, but I explained how much passion and interest I have for this particular area.

There is probably someone with more experience than me but I was really hoping to get it.

I'm glad their reputation is now mud for you 😁

I didn't email them because they were so rude in the interview, I knew there was no point.

It was a Teams interview and they wanted me to do my presentation right at the start, before any talking. However, they didn't give me permission to share my screen and wouldn't accept that I couldn't share it. They asked me to email my Powerpoint to one of them to share. That was very offputting!

Then, after I'd finished my Powerpoint, the person leading the interview asked if anyone had any questions for me and two people said no and immediately left the meeting. The remaining two asked me a couple of questions and I tried to keep enthusiastic etc. but I knew it was already over.

It was very frustrating because a 15 min presentation takes a long time to prepare and the job sounded interesting. However, after the tone of that interview I would have turned them down even if they had offered me the job.

Your loss, University of Bath! 😂

It sounds like you did really well. I think you should email them on Monday morning. Hope you get it!
