Leaving the NHS

I've worked in the NHS as a nurse for 12 years. I'm feeling like it's time for a change for various reasons. Has anyone left and gone in to a completely different career? What did you do? And what was the process? And what happens to my pension etc. If you know, please explain to me like I'm an idiot as I am clueless about that side of things. Thank you very much in advance 🙏

Yes I did this ten years ago after a similar 12 year NHS nursing career.

Your pension just gets deferred, whatever you do, don't move it out if the NHS pension!

I left, giving one months notice, took four months as a career break, then I got an entry level job in education professional services, and worked my way up rapidly.

Unable to get a new NHS job

Hello
Just wanted to see if anyone has been in a similar situation. I've work as a nurse for 5 years with lots of experience on both medical and surgical wards. When my maternity finished I've applied for a few different roles like community, outpatient and clinics, I've been for 4 interviews but never have been offered a job. The thing is that at the end of the interview I was asked if I needed flexible working or if I could work anyday.
I have 2 young kids so the answer is no as it will have to be set days while they are in nursery.

Every time time they called and said I didn't get the job but that I interviewed really well and they would like me to apply again if there was jobs however on this occasion there was someone with more experience for the role.
One one occasion the job was posted again after a week 😐I literally don't know what to believe

You've posted on an existing thread, you need to start your own for more replies. Why did you not continue where you were working prior to mat leave? I don't have any helpful advice sorry. Do your nursery not offer flexible hours? I have to book our nursery dates a month in advance and I usually have my shifts by then. I understand it's a lot easier to have set days though, if you were returning to your previous work place I think they would have to honour a flexible working request? I'm not 100% though.

I’m in a similar boat @User201124 so I’m following this thread (without any helpful advice I’m afraid!) It’s so hard, I’ve got 15 years experience and am top band 6 with no chance of any progression so earning wise maxed out really. But to change career would mean dropping pay significantly at a time when I’ve got young children and a big mortgage!

I’ve completely had enough of working for the nhs though, such waste and incompetence throughout whilst being treated like crap by the public (not everyone of course but it’s the bad experiences you remember.)
