Which job

I've been in my current role for 18 months.

The money is pretty good and the work is easy for the most part.

When I first joined I was really unhappy but as time has gone on I've become used to the environment and it's fine. The people are nice we don't have a huge amount in common with them due to age etc.

The plus of this job is I only go in to the office one day per week and work from home the rest of the time which suits me as I have a school age child. They're pretty flexible as long as the work is done.

A previous employer recently approached me about a role at their company.

I always had a fantastic relationship with this person and can really be myself. I know from previous experience the work would be manageable and I'd be a real "Girl Friday" to them which I like.

The only downside is they're quite old fashioned in that they want me in the office three days a week. The salary they're offering takes this on to account with a little left over.

I'm so torn. My current job is nice enough and they've been good when I've needed flexibility but I've never really felt myself there. I feel awkward and I'm working for more and more people as time goes on.

The other job I'd be working for one person and who I know and am very fond of but it comes at the cost of not being home quite as much for my child.

I'm not sure if it's worth it for an extra £200 a month.

What’s a ‘girl Friday?

if the money is neither here nor there, and you’ll get a little bit more in the new role, then why don’t you do what you think you will enjoy the most? I think that’s what matters tbh, not the easiest option. If you’re in office three days do you already utilise ASC?

A girl Friday, is according to the dictionary "An efficient and faithful female assistant" 😂 a little more old fashioned than I was hoping but that's the gist of it.

Currently we don't need to use ASC as one of us is always around due to the WFH. If I have to sign DC up for that it eats in to any extra money.

I do, however, think I'll be happier overall with the old boss. Current job gives me swirling belly every time I go on to the office and no one really speaks to me

Can you negotiate a better pay or more WFH days for the old/new job offer? After all they reached out, so they must really want you to work for them.

I'm going to ask for two days in the office and one day wfh. That way the salary offered would go further. I commute in and it costs around £50 a day.

If it's three days per week I'll definitely ask for a decent salary bump.

I think I mostly feel guilty because I'm currently only really away from DC one day a week and I can do pick up/drop off on my wfh days, with three days in the office that won't be an option.

DH also WFH though so he can do pick up drop off x 3 which also makes me feel a bit bad!

Is "Girl Friday" really just a euphemism for general dogsbody? I don't think I'd be going back to that sort of environment, if so.

Is the previous employer now at a new company, or the same company? If it's the same company, what was your reason for leaving the first time?
