I am a HCP working in the NHS. I’ve got so much admin and patient notes still from this week that I need to finish. I’m planning to wake up tomorrow and do about 2-3 hours, then same on Sunday 😭 Just wanted abit of a rant really, I feel like work is my whole life as I’m also commuting 4 hours a day. I’m so exhausted 😭

You really need to book in for a chat with your manager if you aren’t managing to complete patient notes within contracted work time. I think most HCP’s will have done other stuff out of hours ,and the NHS has always run on goodwill and unpaid overtime, but it shows you aren’t able to manage your workload if you have that much essential stuff to do .

Depends on your job - completely normal in mine (consultant), not normal for a band 5.

Commuting 4 hours is no way sustainable, that must affect your productivity at work. What are your options for moving jobs, or how long do you have to do this for? Are you a resident or something? You will burn out and believe me no job is worth that. Take action.

You do need to discuss with your manager.

If it’s anything like my experience they may try and put it back on to you and talk about time management etc!

The pp is right, the NHS does survive on staff doing unpaid overtime! I made sure my team members had their additional hours worked added to the roster but mine never were, my boss would have just told me not to do it so I never bought it up! I did it for my sanity and for my team but I have since moved on due to lack of support.

Feels very tough doesn't it. Any chance of a job closer to home, or are you still in training and thus stuck?
I had to go home today leaving unfinished work and will be doing it tomorrow evening once children in bed.
I am a GP partner so there is no manager, it's me! In order to have the right working conditions for my salaried GPs and others, it's the partners who carry the extra. Totally right that employees should be protected, but I'm wondering if I made the right decision accepting partnership tbh. The whole thing is just so unsustainable. So many patients, so many needs, and not enough money to pay for staff.
