Bank holiday entitlement for part timers

I'm calculating someone's leave who is 0.75 wte (f/t is 37.5).

I've worked out they would get 45 hours for BH for 2024. they work Tues, Wed, Thurs.

Is it correct that I only deduct 7.5hours BH for the BH days that fall on their usual work day ie Xmas/Boxing Day so that = 15 hours.

So that leaves them 30 hours to be added to their A/L entitlement to be taken as and when?

That’s exactly what happens with my bank holiday hours.

Yes

NewName24 · 14/11/2024 16:43

Yes, the theory is right, but NYD is also a Wednesday this year, so it is 22.5 hours deducted, leaving 22.5 hours to add on.

Chasingsquirrels · 14/11/2024 16:47

If FYE is 37.5h and they are doing 0.75 that = 28.125h, spread over 3 days = 9.375h/day.
In which case you deduct 9.375 for each BH on a day they would be working.

Do they work the same hours each day? How many hours are they paid for each day/week?

However many hours they work on that day is the number of hours you deduct from their entitlement.

NYD is a Wed next year (1/1/25), and Christmas & Boxing day will be Thu & Fri in 2025.
So you need to consider what "year" you are looking at, might not be a calender year either.

dementedpixie · 14/11/2024 16:53

If they are working 3 x 7.5 hours then they are 0.6 FTE; or are they working longer days than other staff?

NYD falls into next years rota. Our leave years runs from 1st Jan to 31st Dec.

Thanks all, the staff member in question is querying why I'm deducting hours for Xmas and Boxing Day. She can't seem to understand the BH calculation.

I feel she is actually doing quite well out of this arrangement compared to another staff member who does same number of hours over 3 days but her shifts include Mondays.

You haven't clarified the number of hours she works. She's entitled to 5.6 weeks worth of holidays. If a bank holiday falls on a working day and you are closed you deduct the number of hours she usually works on that day

dementedpixie · 14/11/2024 19:28

She gets the same number of holidays as someone who works on Monday. The Monday worker just has less choice on when to take some of her holidays
