Gutted - feel like giving up

Hi,

I just faced another rejection after a 2nd job interview for a position that felt like it could have been my way out of a role I’m completely burned out on. I went through every step, prepared the best I could, and really gave it my all—only to be told no.

It’s getting harder to keep going through this process. I’m exhausted from the constant cycle of applying, prepping, and interviewing, only to be disappointed again. I’m also starting to feel this anxiety every time an interview comes up, like I’m just waiting for the "No".

I just really need a font in the door in a different industry and rediscover some motivation/drive

I could really use some advice or support from anyone who’s been here. How do you push through when you feel like giving up? Thanks for any thoughts or encouragement.

What is your area of expertise?

Are the companies giving you feedback on why you were not suitable for the role?

I know how stressful it can be to look for a job. When I was young, I was lucky to always get jobs I was offered interviews for. But I did find it difficult to get back into the job market after I took a break to have my kids.

Are you able to apply for jobs in a different field with the experience you have? Or maybe do a course or something to give you an extra qualification?

Applying for jobs is tiring and I completely understand that you are starting to feel anxious, but try to hang in there.

Wishing you the best of luck

The job market is really difficult. I haven't had work for over two years now, and have essentially given up on corporate jobs. Fortunately, I have another string to my bow, so have been leveraging that, but it is very demoralising to be rejected from jobs you know you could do easily.

It is a numbers game though, just keep applying and be thankful you still have a job, albeit one you don't want anymore.

I work in tax currently.

I wasn't successful on this occasion as someone had performed better on a written assessment given during the 2nd interview. (compliance analyst role)

Im finding it difficult to apply my experience to other fields as tax is niche so it's more about leaning on the soft skills I have but I don't seem to be getting anywhere.

Thank you!

Exactly that, market seems to have been like this for a while now! Glad you have something else though! Hopefully, it'll fall into place at some point.

Tax is niche but would working with figures and computers not align with other jobs well?

stayathomer · 13/11/2024 19:38

Ps I have 5 interviews within three weeks and didn’t get anything. It feels awful op, starting a temporary job until Christmas and then will be off on the job hunting track again

Potentially but im trying to move away from a numerical orientated roles which is limiting my options.

5 interviews and no offers is tough! Completely understandable to feel deflated. Starting the temp job might give you a bit of breathing room until Xmas! Sure you'll find something!!!!
