fraught meeting with new manager,
new way of working proposed
she said on more than one occasion - it probably wont happen until you have retired anyway!
goodness sake, i am not even 60, i have 8 more years. and even then who is to say i wont stay working?
what right does she have to say this?
i am tempted to speak openly to her and her manager about her attitude.

Has she mistaken you with another colleague who has a planned retirement date maybe, or been told that in error?

Skipsurvey · 11/11/2024 07:21

considering she couldnt get my name right, that is a possibility

Sounds like early days mix ups. Its really worth doing everything you can to get on the right footing here. Did you not just politely say something about not bring anywhere near retirement?

Getting a new boss is nerve jangling but you can navigate through this.

Skipsurvey · 11/11/2024 07:33

i didnt say a word about my retirement unfortunately, didnt put her right but i am worried that she assumes I am going soon!

what right does she have to say this?

So what did she say when you told her that you have no plans for retirement? Or did you just sit and seethe?

Whilst she was perhaps making assumptions, it equally sounds like an overreaction on your part. Having apparently done and said nothing at the time, you now want to have a go at her and complain to her manager. In all honesty, based on your post it sounds like she isn't the only one with an attitude here. Is there more to this than you are saying? Did you apply for the job?

Skipsurvey · 11/11/2024 08:49

no @EmmaMaria
i didnt sit and seethe

So you raised it with her when she said it? Because I understood that you then went on to say that you haven't said anything to her. You want to "speak openly to her" and report her to her manager - that sounds an awful lot like seething, and over something which might be annoying (possibly more so if you had actually said you weren't retiring any time soon) but which you chose not to mention at the time. There surely must be more to this?

i didnt chose not to mention it,
i was in a fraught meeting and just froze
