Quick question - Can a workplace force you to do overtime?

Is it in your contract?

mankyscotslass · 27/04/2008 08:14

I think they can if it's in the contract. I used to work work at a company who when recruiting new staff always stipulated in the contracts that they would be required to work so many hours additional time, scheduled as and when the company needed it, although usually in advance - but not always.

See here, about overtime generally including whether you can be forced, and if so how much.

Thanks everyone - it's not actually for me but colleagues in my old workplace - i left when ds came along. I'm almost positive that it's not in their contracts but i'll double check with them.

many contracts for salaried roles will require that you work "such hours as are reasonable to fulfil your role". Its not overtime its part of the job. What sort of role is it?
