so, I’ve been out of the work environment for over ten years. I definitely want to get back to work in the New Year.

Im regularly looking at Indeed etc…

So I’m hoping some suggestions might help. Anything along the lines of admin. Thanks

Contrary to popular mythology, there are not a lot of genuine WFH opportunities, and - if I am honest - even fewer for people who have no real work record. In admin (and many other) terms, 10+ years out of the workplace is "way out of date skills", added to (sorry) "want to organise your work around the more important things in my life". On these sparse details, I can't see anyone really wanting to employ you - nothing in it for them, and too much risk.

You’re going to be a long time looking for a WFH job after not working for 10 years.

Could you start with part time admin work in an office, or temp work? Sign up to any local agencies, offer to cover receptionist sick days or similar.

What they said I'm afraid.

Do you have any skills?

I work in the voluntary sector and there are quite a number of jobs wfh because bluntly we can’t afford offices where everyone fits anymore

if you’ve been out of work environment for 10 years, it might be worth doing some volunteering for a bit. You’ll need to think about transferable skills - what did you do before?

Thank you for your honest replies.

I worked in hospital admin before the children came along.

I’m currently doing a secretarial course with Pitmans. I did think about some bank work at my local hospital just odd weeks here and there.
I will look into some volunteering too.

Have you considered volunteering to build a more current skillset? I employ people for a charity and would take into account legitimate and extensive voluntary work that demonstrates skills and ability during career gaps. The market is tough, all of our staff work from home and we can easily have 300 applications for 1 role. There is lots of competition so ask yourself how you can stand out. Tbh a 10yr gap with no experience or volunteer work wouldn't get you an interview! Maybe consider how you can use the next few months to a year to make yourself a more attractive prospect?
