Maybe they'd prefer not to employ a current parent in that role and have had sufficient external interest? I know when ours advertises office positions they do stipulate that. Think I'd do b) which should give you an idea as to whether it is worth while bothering to offer to volunteer again.

There's no harm in asking for feedback anyways, as it's always good to know what went wrong so you can improve it in future interviews.

I'm sorry you didn't get it though, it would have been ideal really?

I'd do both

If you're still prepared to volunteer that's great - if your offer was about helping out/keeping your hand in, rather than trying to get a job.

Asking for feedback will in no way alienate the Head - she is also a professional and will be able to tell you why.

Hope you are not too disappointed

I am sorry you didn't get the job. I would keep volunteering as it could be useful. You never know the new appointment may fall through !
