.......i applied for loads of jobs and got nowhere because i am shit scared of discrimination i never tick that box but i am now thinking maybe i should just decide to do so and maybe id stand a better chance of working

would i have to talk to my gp about it

and if i cant get a job sometime soon then i am going to have no money as at the moment i am living on money that my exh lent me to spend on the house

if i have no money then what will i do?

Zippi, I don't know if it is the same over here as it is in Germany, but my stepfather always advised me to make sure to "mention" that I am classed as (I think) 20% disabled....somehting like that...because in germany they have a certain quota they have to fill and as my "disability" ( I was born wiht a bilateral cleft lip and palate)isn't actually disabling me from normal functioning (now), it would make me an attractive candidate, apparently.
I must admit, I personally have never ticked it on any application forms over here...!

Could you maybe become selfemployed and do some sort of E-bay business or somehting like that? I mean, should you not find anything...
It must be very frustrating for you...my dh is Jobhunting right now, and even though he only really has started he is already quite disheartened...he was 22 years in the Army, and it's all a bit of a shock to the system....

zippitippitoes · 26/04/2008 17:17

i am just in the process of closing down a limited co9mpany that i have had for the past 8 years

so done that really and lost money

a lot

my dd1 says dont go down the route of disability as you will not get a job and just feel rubbish about yourself and if you do get a job they will discriminate against you in eg the council which is where she was working previously and she said they treated people woith known mental heal;th problems like shite

i have my head firmly buried in the sand

i am too old

i have no pension

i have no income

Can't you do some gardening? People must be crying out this time of year.

If you lived near me I would pay you to come and do my garden. I have lawn that neds re-seeding, plants I bought weeks ago that need planting (but then it turned v cold), weeding, etc. Mow lawns etc.

I don't do gardening. Only realised AFTER we moved from a sixth floor flat to here.....

zippitippitoes · 26/04/2008 18:00

yep i have one gardening job for 4 hours

i am trying to get more

the only thing is i still wont have any potential pension tho im never going to have one of those tbh as i am too old and basically i am worse off now than an unpaid pensioner

ive just spent a 1000 quid on my car

i dont know how i shall manage when i have spent this loan never mind when i will pay it back...it is at least three times what i could earn in a year

and i have a big mortgage too

Have you thought about checking NHS Trust websites. They employ gardeners. Not great pay though. Your mental health status shouldn't be an issue there.

zippitippitoes · 26/04/2008 18:06

normally i dont tick mental health things

just had a thought perhaps i could benefit from it for a change

i think in reality i would hate to say tho as ni never have admitted it in rl

i have only just brought myself to mention it to my dd1 and 2

Ouch.

A friend's DH does gardening work. He left his previous job after years of being unhappy - he finally cracked. He has a few hours a week - maybe 12-14 - in a local shop and then has built up gardening around it. Because he works in the shop and they are in a village, he put a sign up on their noticeboard so people know who they are employing IYSWIM.

He charges about £10 per hour which seems quite expensive for round here but TBH it's entirely fair given that he's entirely legit and needs to take into account sickness, holidays, and the future.

Iota · 26/04/2008 18:07

I tend to agree with dd1 - don't tick the box

zippitippitoes · 26/04/2008 18:10

i charge ten pounds an hour

its 15 miles awy

it just about pays for my diesel for a week

SueW · 27/04/2008 21:48

That's But 15 miles is a long way to go. Friend's DH (works for us sometimes) is just around the corner. Do you live in the middle of nowhere? Do you want to do something relating to your horticulture studies?

zippitippitoes · 27/04/2008 21:49

no i live in the centre of town
