Fellow NHS workers - what are you experiencing?

NC for obvious reasons!

Myself and my partner (early 30's) both work for the same NHS trust but in very different roles/departments.

I've recently handed my notice in and my partner is looking elsewhere too with some interviews lined up. If you'd have asked him even 6 months ago whether he would leave he would have been adamant that he's here until he retires but things have gone downhill so fast.

The trust is making huge cuts. No overtime or bank staff (which in my dept we relied heavily on) so we're worked harder and harder. The mood is awful, you can feel the atmosphere as you walk in, you just know each shift is going to be difficult. Often we walk in to lots of work left by the previous shift because they simply haven't got the staff to do the work. We also have a ban on recruitment. My supervisors are stressed and snappy, which I understand because that's how my partner feels in his role. He just simply hasn't got the staff to do what is being asked if him. He gets pressure from above and below and tensions are high. We are all frequently told 'its only going to get worse'.

I just wondered if we're unlucky at my trust or if this is reflected across the NHS more generally? We were talking about it last night, often there's a sort of unspoken feeling within the NHS where you know you're paid a bit less and it's a bit tough but you're all in it together to do good work for your country. A bit of a martyrdom view if you like where you have this responsibility of holding the NHS up together because you're a special sort of person (not that I subscribed to that!) But I feel like the mood has really shifted lately.
