Civil Service - what does this mean?

I applied for a CS job back at the beginning of September. Spent lots of time on my application, qualified for the role, plenty of experience etc.

It got to six weeks and I still hadn’t heard anything so I contacted recruitment and was told they’re still sifting. After seven weeks I finally got an update in my portal, but all it said was ‘Unfortunately there are no longer positions available for this vacancy so we will not be able to progress your application’.

I don’t know whether that means the position no longer exists, i.e. it was pulled, or if it’s just a roundabout way of saying my application was rejected. Has anyone had this response before? I’ve always made it to the next stage with CS applications so I don’t actually know what their sifting stage rejection message look like. I did try to call them to ask if they could clarify but there was nobody available.

There’s hardly anything out there in my sector at the moment due to all the recruitment freezes. I’m on two reserve lists as well but crickets. Feeling so demoralised.

I’m ex CS. We occasionally had to pull vacancies due to unforeseen circumstances or change of priorities further up the chain. I don’t know how it was worded on the portal, but the wording would suggest position was withdrawn rather than filled.

It means they’ve pulled the post or don’t have the funding for it. Sorry OP I understand why you’re frustrated.

Do you want to share what your experience/skills are so people can make suggestions?
