New salary help

OneSparklyGoldBear · 25/10/2024 19:33

I currently earn a salary of 80.5k and a allowance of 10k on top of that. Current net take home is 5k a month with 6% salary sacrifice into a pension.

Been offered new role for 105k and allowance of 6k. What would be my new net take home? I want to salary sacrifice anything over 100k into pension to avoid the loss of personal allowance.

Thanks for any help.

If you want to salary sacrifice everything over £100k then you need to sacrifice everything over £100k gross. So your net take home on 105k is irrelevant, because you’ll be asking them not to pay you that. Just sign up to sacrifice £11k p.a. into your pension (to account for the allowance) as soon as you start.

That is a very valid point.

I wanted to earn 6k net but will that ever be possible if I keep salary sacrificingm?

Why don't you use the PAYE / salary calculators you can find on google to play around with the figures?

The one posted above allows you to enter pension contribution so you can play about with the numbers

Assuming no student loans, £100k gross salary is £5,713 net per month. So salary sacrificing down to £100k won’t get you to £6k take home. To get that you need a gross salary of £109,100. Bear in mind that compared to a gross of £100k you’re getting £3k more take home but paying £6k more tax. So it might be better to stick to your original plan of using pension salary sacrifice to get your taxable income down to £100k and just accept the £300 shortfall in monthly take home vs your original plan.
