Role with HMRC

My husband applied for a job with HMRC over the summer. About 6 weeks go he received a provisional offer. He has now completed all the pre employment checks and HMRC say they are reviewing those - they do not show up anything untoward.

does anyone have any insight into how long this process might all take as they seem to move at snails pace. We have no indication at all of when a start date might be.

its a good role for him if it all comes good but I’m starting to give up hope - the process has already taken months

He needs to speak to hiring manager and find out the timeframe. It's perfectly reasonable to not want to just wait around indefinitely.
But as we know, HMRC as an organisation is clunky and slow. And I can only imagine this process is an expression of the nature of them in general.

This is very typical for Civil Service.

Yes, very typical for civil service - recruitment runs at a glacial pace at the best of time unfortunately!

We always say don't hand in your notice until you've had the final offer, which they will send out once the checks are completed.

Once that's done, hiring manager can arrange a start date (or HR might if they're starting lots of people at once).
