Hi I am going to be working for just one family as a nanny type role but baby's mum will be there they are disabled and need the support. Am I classed as employed it will be my only job both for the family and in general.
As I will be earning just under £123 a week I am assuming they won't need to register as an employee so that's where I am confused as to my status? Also do the family need to do payroll? Thank you

Who is going to be liable for your Tax and NI? If they do it, they need to sort payroll, if you do it you're self employed and will need to submit a tax return.

No tax and NI it's my only job but I have a contract of employment with them.

You are employed by them. How many hours are you working?

LIZS · 22/10/2024 12:39

There are criteria from hmrc which indicate whether you are employed, se or a worker. If the hours are fixed by the family for example. www.gov.uk/employment-status/selfemployed-contractor

@Chewbecca 10 hours a week at £12 per hour.

Do you have any other employment? Or ways to earn NI or NI credits?

DaisyChain505 · 22/10/2024 16:55

They either need to employ you meaning you get paid holidays etc and then they pay you through a company like nanny tax who will sort your tax and ni etc or you will be self employed and will need to put money away monthly and sort your own taxes.

You're employed.
As you're earning below the NI threshold your employer needs you to complete a starter declaration so you can declare this is your only job. They keep this to prove they don't need to register for PAYE.

I've just checked the lower earnings limit for this year and it's £123 so they'll need to register for PAYE so you get NI credits although you won't actually get any deductions. They'll need to submit a form each week when you get paid. They can download basic PAYE tool to do so. It's very straightforward and HMRC has an Employer Helpline to help them.

This page contains quite clear advice.

No other job, thank you for the link that's helpful.

Am confused I will be earning £120 a week. Does the above still apply? Oh I see what you mean now, I don't actually need the credits as I get carers allowance and child benefit so my NI is covered that way for my pension.

Edited

There is no tax and ni owing so no official payroll is needed. I am happy know that I am not self employed as I did the Hmrc checked suggested. I will not be working for myself or with other families.
