Thinking of being an AVON rep too...

Do any existing AVON reps have advice already touched on in this thread: I am thinking of being a rep but could do with some insider info! What is in the rep pack? Why isn't it worth it? Can you make up your own materials, buy bags on eBay etc? I was thinking of making up my own flyers (using AVON branding of course) to go round as many houses as possible asking if they would like a book, with my phone number rather than risking leaving it. I'm put off by reps here and on Netmums saying people just bin the books and never answer the door. I hate trying to cold call people who are completely disinterested. I thought I could cover more ground this way and get to know more real potential customers. What do you think? ADVICE PLEASE!

I was flicking through the threads and noticed this one and felt compelled to reply.

Please dont do it!! i know some people have made a fair bit of money from Avon repping but I have done it twice now and have had numerous problems..

The Avon call centre are useless for a start, I had several orders that had triple what I ordered thanks to the "more reliable" Net ordering service(!) that meant I had to then send so much stuff back.

People dont always want to order from Avon the books come out too regularly, and there is the issue that no one trusts buying from things like this anymore!

I could go on but hope that gives you an indication???

I have been an Avon Rep for two years and really enjoy it. I have met lots of new people by where I live too. To have trippled an order then wurlywoo would have had to submitted her order three times. I know all this because I have also become a Sales Leader which is a great way to earn some extra money by signing-up new Reps. Often if a new Rep does not understand the ordering on-line then they will submit an order more than once. Wurlywoo should of had some advice from her Sales Leader or Area Manager, that's what they are there for. Not everyone is so negative about Avon!

I think Avon is a front for an evil cult!

wurlywoo · 16/05/2008 20:40

I agree, it works for some who have the time to invest properly in their Avon business.

Incidentally, I had a call from the Area Manager the other day asking why I hadn't placed an order this time. Errr, I haven't placed any orders since December, and told them numerous times that I had stopped doing Avon.. my point proven really!

Sorry to put you off but, I would hate for you to invest valuable time for it to be problematic for you, but on the other hand it may work for you!!

I was also really nervous about becoming a rep but have been doing it since January and really enjoy it.
I havent worked since I had my first child seven years ago and after doing the first book drop i was in a right state but it was just a confidence thing and it really worried me that i may be putting a book through someones door who really didnt want it, but no one was mean or horrible it was just me being stupid!!
However i did attach a covering note introducing myself and a box for them to tick if they didnt wany any more, at least that way i felt more comfortable and wasnt going to waste books on people who didnt want them.
Now and again a customer will forget to leave a book out but once you have your regulars they are pretty good about remembering.
Give it a go, what have you got to lose

wurlywoo · 03/06/2008 21:45

I'm glad you have had more success than I did funnymum, i agree though, once you get regulars it's not too bad. The biggest problem I experienced was the damn ordering system that was heavily flawed and the call centre that was as much use as i would be at singing live to an audience on Britain's got Talent!!

Mind you, the second time I did Avon I was pregnant trying to earn cash for the baby, I wasn't in the best mind or body to be doing it properly as well as working f/t!

my skin is such shit, if i were selling any sort of makeup i wouldn't be a good representative of it!

i'm a rep for another company Tish Tash Toys. If you have young children- the toys we sell are aimed from birth up. If you want to know some more, you can message me. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

I see this is a rather old thread. Never mind. I can only relate my experience as a relatively new Avon Ladyboy. It has been so far a positive experience, but then again I joined because some very good friends have been involved for three years and have built up a very healthy income with Avon. I was unable to join until late last year due to personal circumstances.

Avon is a real business, for those who treat it as such, and are prepared for some mild rejection, and the fact that there are a minority of wierd people who will find any excuse to take offence at the sight of a catalogue. I also accept that the catalogue is unsolicited, and some go in the bin. That is just the way it is.

Those who wish to earn significant incomes also have to understand that, as a Networking model, this is earned through recruitment and support of new reps. Unlike most Networks the products do sell.

My advice is decide what you want to achieve, work with people who can advise and support you, and do some work. Most people will not bother.

Don't do it! It's so much hassle for so little benefit
