MS Project

How hard is MS Project to learn? I’m good at picking up new systems and figuring stuff out, know Excel & all the other MS programmes well.

Basically I want to apply for a role that says it’ll be using MS Project, but surely if I’ve got all the other skills a system is something I can learn? I’ve always had to learn other new systems in any job, so think it should be no different…

Am I being ridiculous to think this?!

I found it very easy to pick up. There is obviously commonality with all MS products and if you can use Excel competently, Project is much easier.

Thank you that’s really good to know! I’ve found loads of tutorials online I’m going to go through, but unless I get the job I can’t actually get a licence installed.

I figure it’s like any program you learn by using it :)

Download Project Libre (which is free) - it is similar enough for you to get a feel for how it works, it just doesn't have as much functionality as MS Project.

If you know the main MS software it’s fairly easy to pick up other MS software. I certainly was self taught on MS project,

Oh brilliant thank you I’ll do this.

I've had my struggles with MS Project.

Mostly because it stops me doing 'stupid' things, by enforcing dependencies and durations which might be missed if you were just sketching out a high level plan in PowerPoint.

If Project is mentioned is mentioned in the job spec. it might indicate that the work is very driven by detailed plans with a lot of dependencies. If that's the kind of work that appeals to you, then have at it.

I'd encourage you to ask questions about your role to find out what you will actually be doing. Good luck.
