Anyone work in car insurance? Or anyone who uses their car as part of their job role

I’m applying for a role which involves me using my own car to go to students homes regularly as an attendance officer. (School will pay mileage)
My question is will I have to adjust my car insurance for this? I currently
have fully comp- domestic commute to one place of work and pleasure?
Thank you 🌺

Yes

Sheepareawesome · 08/10/2024 19:18

I work in patients' homes and it was free to add work insurance ro my car insurance. You do need to do this, but most people at work say theirs was free or minimal cost.

ForBrickSnake · 08/10/2024 19:19

Think you will. Check with your insurance- it isn't normally a huge amount.

mitogoshigg · 08/10/2024 19:19

You need to add business, cost me all of 50p a year extra!

SirChenjins · 08/10/2024 19:21

Yes you will but it’s v easy to do and not at all expensive

Zoommeout · 08/10/2024 19:24

Thanks all . I assumed it would be expensive. I will give my insurance a ring - IF I get the job. Thank you

Yes you will need to inform insurance. The extra cost is not much, definitely not worth taking a risk.

BigGapMum · 08/10/2024 19:27

Yes. I pay an extra £25 a year.

Comefromaway · 08/10/2024 19:31

Yes, my husband was a peri with the LA music service travelling to different schools & he had to have business insurance.

I work in payroll and our employees who get mileage to use their own cars to travel between clients have to have it too.

IBlameTheDog · 08/10/2024 19:32

Yes you will. You'd be amazed at how many people don't - and find themselves uninsured 🫣

coffeesaveslives · 09/10/2024 06:44

Yes, mine didn't cost me anything extra to add business insurance.

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 09/10/2024 06:50

Yes, and you will possibly have to provide proof that you are insured correctly to your work in order to claim the mileage.

FiveDuckGyoza · 09/10/2024 06:53

You need business class 2 insurance. Mine cost me £9 extra the year I added it!

LoftLaughLoads · 09/10/2024 07:16

Yes but the premium uplift is tiny. A long time ago when my role changed to something that would include a bit of car use for business purposes I resisted having to do this as I was worried about insurance and I got my employers to agree to pay the difference but then it turned out that the difference was less than £10 to specifiy cover for 1000 business miles per year. The cost of this is less than the difference between the 45p per mile costs that you can usually claim as expenses vs the actual cost of fuel so I think it's fine.

Zoommeout · 27/11/2024 22:40

Thank you all. I addded it on for the cost of just over £16 which I claimed back as expenses.
