Anybody returned back to an old workplace and regretted it?

More of a rent and call out for shared experiences. But wondering if anyone has ever gone back to a former workplace and regretted it?

I returned to a company after two years out on the promise that things were better, the bully director was gone and that there would be training and budget (I work in professional services marketing). Lo and behold it was all a lie and the new director is worse than the last!

Leaving is not an option as I'm now pregnant and need the mat leave. So I'm just holding on till I can go off in April!! Grin

Yes! I’ve been back to my old job after new management took over and promised the world! Turns out they were even worse than the last lot!! I left after a few weeks and found something with less money but better management. Some workplaces are just toxic.

Same here. I went back years later and toxic people left but toxic people replaced them. For some reason the toxic culture remains and I think in life we should not go back.

The only situations where I know that this has worked out has been when they left against their will in their first place. For example, their DH's job re-located and they went with him or they chose to take some time out of the workplace for caring responsibilities.

@Kitty66 honestly, I wish I hadn't have gotten pregnant as I would've been able to walk (run) away Easter Sad

@Tennyy yes, I think toxicity is engrained in the wall of the building. Nothing will change that place!

@sangriaandsunshine very true, I left for a reason and shouldn't have went back.

Yes!
I had a job in advertising/marketing and it was totally overshadowed by three of the bosses who were frankly cruel and awful leaders.

Left, then some years later heard the original company had had a total overhaul and were hiring. I was looking to change so applied, got the job, seemed like a breath of fresh air.

Started and it was clear really quickly that the ethos of the place hadn’t changed. Animal farm in advertising!

Left again and was really cross with myself for going back there again.

My lovely friend took redundancy in the aircraft industry and set up a handyman business. Went back part time after 5 years, after 6 weeks he was back doing his handyman business. He said he loved the work but the camaraderie was different. He’s a brilliant chap to know for jobs and a very people person so really happy he can make a living with his own business.

Yes twice in one job and once in another.

I have broken that now but it basically goes down to me having a lack of confidence and wanting to be in a familiar environment. I don't regret the one occasion I went back but definitely the twice back to one job.

I am so proud I have broken that. I left last job where I returned once and have now been in post two years.

Yes, I did - nhs. Got my first qualifying job in a team, left two years later for promotion, came back after two years in a side step but less stress and pressure role than the promotion role.

It worked for me, but I guess I never left as it was toxic - just because there was no progression role at the time I wanted it.

I chose to leave and I went back 3 years later. Been there ever since so it can work out however I work in a different team now.
