@Newsenmum

I'm a library assistant, it's 24k a year full time which is the same as ta wage in my area. (Before pro rata) But a 1000 times less stressful.

My job is to -
do returns
check books out to people
source books from other libraries (the libraries run borough wide)
tidy shelves
run groups and events
Organise promotions/displays
Create new customer accounts
Re distribution of stock
IT support
Signpost/advocate for customers

No specific qualifications needed but experience preferred

Progression would be Library manager, responsible for building and staff.(26k per year) Managers are qualified to degree level

Then librarian (30k) the librarian is like an Area Manager oversees several libraries and deals with ordering of stock in to libraries, staffing, budgeting, building maintenance , data and statistics

I'd love to work in a library. I love books and reading. There was a job that recently came up but the hours were 8 a week. Which wasn't useful

Yeah that was same for me as well. The hours were like 12 hours a week, which was no good.

BSc(Hons) in what?

Occupational Therapy, I worked for 20 years in the NHS and got burnt out. I don’t want to return to my previous profession, I’ve been a TA for 6 years now. It’s been ideal as a single parent but as my dd is getting older and more independent I need to think about moving on.

WillowTit · 01/10/2024 18:02

i persuaded a friend to apply for a parttime limited contract librarian assistant role, she was soon working more hours and stayed for years

Enigma52 · 01/10/2024 18:03

Will be following with interest.
TA here and very exhausted!

I know you say that you don’t want to go back to being an OT but have you considered community OT? Quite different to being hospital based. Could be part time too and still earn considerably more. And a great pension.

I was a TA for 7 years and have moved to being a cover supervisor in a secondary school. Some days I might recommend it!
