Start date within the NHS

I was offered a role within the NHS in the first week of August. I was told NHS HR are very slow. All the checks have been done and I am waiting on a start date. I’m available to start immediately but I’d like a week to mentally prepare myself. Does anyone know if it is likely they will give me that week’s notice before starting? Or, as they know I am ready to start, could they potentially tell me on Friday that they want me to start the following Monday?

You agree a start date rather than them telling you, so it should be fine to have the week to prepare

When all checks were done and I had my unconditional offer my manager called me and we arranged a start date.

that’s really reassuring, thank you ☺️

Me and my DH have both had a few NHS roles and we've always picked our start dates.

In the NHS , HR are usually very separate from the clinical teams… The agreement about start date is usually between the recruiting manager and the employee and the manager then just lets HR know and they stick it on the system. I would say speak to the person who interviewed you..
