Worried flexi request will be rejected

Hi

I am in the last few days of my maternity leave and I'm due to go back to work next Saturday. I work as a support worker and I currently work 16 hours.

Shift patterns are:
7.00 - 14.30
14.30 - 22.00
7.00 - 22.00

My work have been able to put me down for the half day shifts which is brilliant because I can work travelling to work and putting my baby to nursery around the shifts. The only one I have issues with is the 7 - 14.30.

I don't drive so I put in a flexi request ages ago and my request was to start on a morning at 8 instead and finish at 15.30 instead. I'd be coming to work an hour later but I'd be staying an extra hour so I'd still be doing the same shifts. If I was to start at 7am I'd have to order a taxi and it's £20 each way so I'd be spending money on taxis and I wouldn't be able to get by money wise.

I still haven't heard anything from HR with their decision. My manager has asked if I could do the full days 8 - 22.00 as a counter proposal. The trouble is I can't do it die to childcare arrangements as well as my baby's Dads work hours too. Plus if I did 8 - 22.00 I'd be doing 14 hours instead of 16 that I'm contracted for so I have to say no to the counter proposal.

My rota for work is out and they've been able to accommodate me doing half days however the only request I have is the starting an hour later and finish an hour later. What are the chances of it getting rejected and what I can do if it gets rejected? I'm just very anxious as I'm not sure if I'd be able to stay in this job if its rejected.

Sorry OP but I think there’s a very high chance it will be rejected.

Who will cover one hour of work (7-8) if you can’t? I can’t imagine it being easy to reorganise staff to cover only one hour.

14 hours is a bloody long shift though. Even the half shift (7 hours) is almost a full time day!

Sorry I forgot to add there is sleep shifts through the night. One member of staff sleeps at the property. In the day it's 2 members of staff. At the moment because of my baby's sleep pattern my manager has allowed sleeps to be taken off me to review it again in December.

So there would be a member of staff there anyway for 7am. We also had another member of staff (bank) who was doing 8am starts too.
