Ghosted after job offer?

Hi all,
im new here so apologies if this is the wrong place to post this. Im just looking for some advice.
i recently had a interview and a trial day at a job which seemed to have went very well. It’s a job that i love and have huge interest so when i had an email saying they would like to offer me the role, i was so excited. They offered to call to go through everything properly so they asked me to send over my number and that theyll try and give me a call that day. I replied with the number etc assuming all is good. Its now been 2 days and im yet to hear anything, no call or email etc, so now im sort of worried that im not gonna hear anything at all! I know this is possibly me just overthinking, but has anyone had this happen before? Am i being a bit unrealistic and not giving them enough time? Ive gone through all kinds of scenarios in my head but im hoping this isnt a sign that they dont wish to continue my application especially after offering the job and me accepting it. Ive never had this happen before in past jobs and usually if something happens/busier day than usual id recieve an email explaining that, so not hearing anything at all from this company has me a little worried. I normally wouldnt think much of it but the fact they told me theyd try and give me a call that day and then all of a sudden nothing just makes me feel a bit on edge.

of course this could just be normal and im just being a bit too eager to get the ball rolling lol but i was just wondering if i dont hear anything anytime soon when would it be appropriate to run it up? Like maybe send a quick email asking if theyre still continuing with the job offer etc? Is this normal or should i be worried lol?

thank you for reading this far and if you have any advice for me or any idea what i should do id really appreciate it!

Yes! I was offered a job this summer after an interview (for quite a large prestigious hotel as a conference manager). They phoned to offer the job, I was enthusiastic and asked them to email over the details of the details of the offer in writing and then... nothing. I phoned a few days later, emailed, left a voicemail, no answer nothing. Just left it because it was getting embarrassing. It was so odd.

Ahhhh it’s so weird isn’t it? I’ve never had it happen before and genuinely didn’t think it’s something companies do since it just seems unprofessional, fair enough if they just ghosted after the interview etc but to offer a job and then vanish is just strange! I’m sorry that happened to you!

2 days isn’t that long. It takes a while to get contracts etc sorted out, so I wouldn’t panic just yet.

I’m currently looking for work and the ghosting is just awful. I did 3 rounds of interviews including a really in depth presentation and never heard from them again. HR people who let this happen should be ashamed of themselves.

Don’t lose hope very early days, lots of things can come up in business that prevented the call happening at said time.

Did you agree a start date, was that known during recruitment?

Whilst I’ve written the job off, I had an interview at weekend and they insisted it would be at least two weeks until I heard anything further so it’s a strange world at the moment we’re in.

There are lots of things that can slow down the process, if one of your referees is on holiday for example, they just have to wait. Try not to catastrophise.

If any of you are going through a recruiter then get the recruiter to chase the company rather than you chase them.

I had an issue this summer where I didn't hear from a company in the timeframe they gave. It transpired that the HR person had "left". Anyway I got a better offer before they managed to set up a third interview.

I had a 3 rd stage interview 2 days ago and they had said it was the last stage. The hr person asked me how it went and she was due with a debrief yesterday! I enquired but nada - not a pip squeak. At 3rd interview stage with another company but going through the mill with 5 separate interviews- last one on Monday! Nothing else in the bag! Want to leave my job due to a toxic new boss

Did they pay you for trial day. Lots of companies get people to do trial days and basically have workers for free!!

Blinkingmarvellous · 25/09/2024 09:49

I would send a polite friendly email saying that you're really enthusiastic about the role and asking if you can talk about next steps.

I think 2 days isn't long. I applied for a job in May. It closed on 22nd May and I heard nothing until a offer of interview early July. Offered the job 2 days later. Accepted conditional offer. Didn't hear a thing until last week when they finally sent me a contract!! I was getting a bit stressed as I handed in my notice and finish current job next week!!

So shit, but public sector so kind of expected.
