Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the direction of my career as im feeling very lost. I graduated with a law degree a few years ago. Been working as a tax assistant since at an accounting firm. Hate the work, don't find it remotely interesting and disengaged as it's very technical. I do compliance work only. Mental health is taking a hit because I don't feel like im fulfilling my potential.I'm looking for some alternative careers which may be suitable and have a high ceiling as im very ambitiousl. Seems difficult if you don't enjoy numbers. Thanks 😀

Look into procurement
Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply
Writing schedules for commercial contracts is an essential skill alongside lots of other responsibilities
There's a shortage of good procurement people, so you'll not struggle finding work if you can manage a first step (emphasise your legal skills to open the door)

What kind of things do you enjoy? The job market is hard work at the moment but SO many interesting roles out there that your law degree could help with- it depends on what makes you tick.

I think the secret with job satisfaction is to find something that aligns with your own values - eg working for a brand/company that you use as a customer, or has a wider purpose that you connect with. Have a read up on Ikigai - the visual wheel should help guide you on finding out these answers.

You are lucky, as lots of doors will remain open for you with a legal background + experience in tax. It doesn't matter that you want to pivot - it's about making sure you know how to market your transferable skills/knowledge.

I really love stuff like this (I'm also job hunting atm and have a fair bit of knowledge on careers etc).

Feel free to PM me if you like.

Good luck!
